Summary
Anyone wishing to be employed as a CCTV operator for public space surveillance has to be in possession of a licence issued to them by the Security Industry Authority (SIA). This nationally recognised qualification, which is endorsed by the SIA, is the industry standard and enables a CCTV operator to meet one of the requirements to apply for their licence to practise.
Details
The Security Industry Authority (SIA) recognises that it is essential for all CCTV (Public Space Surveillance) operators to have undergone a structured programme of training if they are to carry out their role effectively and professionally and this qualification provides candidates with the basic knowledge and understanding of the industry. Successful completion of the qualification will enable candidates to apply for a licence to practise which will enable them to work within the CCTV (Public Space Surveillance) industry. The qualification is awarded on successful completion of three units:
· Working in the Private Security Industry
· Working as a CCTV Operator
· Practical Operation of CCTV Equipment
This qualification, which is accredited by SQA and is worth 4 credits, follows the SIA’s new specification. The unitised structure reduces overlap between subject areas making it easier for learners to gain qualifications for additional sectors (Door Supervision, Security Guarding etc) as they will only need to sit the additional units.
