BII South West Region Event Helps Nurture The Green Shoots Of Business
Released
02/03/2009
Summary
The South West Region of BII, the professional body for the licensed retail industry, is inviting licensees to look for green shoots in their business this Spring.
Everyone knows that a positive outlook and proactive attitude can go a long way but we all need a boost at times – and where better to get that than the 2009 Licensing Forum being organised by Kitson Hutchings Solicitors on Friday 20th March in Kingsteignton, Devon.
BII South West Region chairman Keith de Bruin welcomes BII members and non-members alike to attend the event and debate some of the important issues currently facing the leisure industry. At a time of serious economic decline and with pubs closing at a rate of 40 a week, everyone is looking for answers.
Three distinguished speakers will facilitate the discussions:
Adrian Sanders MP, Liberal Democrat MP for Torbay
Richard Smith, Brand Home Director of Plymouth Gin. Director of Plymouth Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Portfolio Holder for Visitor Economy and Tourism and Fellow of BII for Devon and Cornwall
Vince Flower, Director of WA Shearings and member of the Board of the Torbay Development Agency
The event is intended to be fully interactive so questions and contributions from attendees will be encouraged. Topics to be covered on the day will include both practical and more general issues, such as:
- The Licensing Act – has it worked?
- Drink promotions – an end to the happy hour?
- Binge drinking and public order
- The underage drinker – a threat to your licence?
- Policing and Crime Bill – reform or red tape?
- The smoking ban – bad for your health?
- Changes to the Licensing Act in 2009
- Last orders for the English pub?
The event will take place at The Passage House Hotel, Hackney Lane, Kingsteignton, Devon TQ12 3QH on Friday 20th March 2009. Registration is from 2pm for a prompt 2.30pm start and the seminar will finish at 4.45pm. Attendance costs just £10 + VAT (£11.50) per person – book early to avoid disappointment.
